Hey everyone,
In anticipation of getting my offset I purchased some wood off craigslist from a local guy. Looking at the wood I just want to make sure it looks ok and I'm not going to get my family sick from using it. I have a bunch of oak and apple wood.

Not sure about the logs covered in white or the ones that seem to have small fungus looking things on the bark. Anyway, thanks for the info!

most of it looks ok, but I would use an axe or hatchet to remove the bark, then store it in a dry place. I would discard any pieces that had a ring of soft wood (punk) or at least trim off all of it I could before using to smoke with. The wood looks like it came from tree tops after logging and has been on the ground a couple of years or more judging by the mold and decay that has set in

I started to take a hatchet too a few logs and break them in half to see how they look inside. By puck, do you mean in image two the log with the big dark circle? What about the logs with the white fungus/mold. Just toss those as well?

Edit: NVM I started researching punked wood. Those pieces I'll just pitch in the woods. Just need to go through what I have and learn a lesson to not just order from a random person on Craig's list.

I would get rid of all the white mold I could unless it penetrates throughout the wood, then I would discard it. Punk is any soft wood that has started to rot underneath the bark.

Thank you for the help my friend.
