I am new to pellet smokers. Finally had the chance to build my outdoor kitchen. I already had the Vision Kamado and needed another grill and not a propane grill. I just purchased the Louisiana Estate 860BI and need to know some tricks. I have been smoking for 6+ years and from talking to friends the pellet style is easier but is it better? Love the versatility of the Estate and the ease of "Set it and forget it" but will it provide the same cook as my Vision? Can't wait to go through the forums and see what works and does not work.

No you wont get the same taste imo, Butt its still great ,a lot of folks keep trying to get to the same place by different methods and you just cant do it. Its a lighter smoke profile and I believe a healthier 1 due to a cleaner smoke, learning to use any of the pellet smokers is a lot of fun as you can eat your mistakes most of the time lol. My wife has problems with a heavy smoke flavor these days but the lighter profile seems to not bother her so I get to use it more often. Have fun with it and don't get discouraged on cooks that don't turn out the way you wanted, try changing 1 or 2 things at a time as you go along to see if that helps. I have had my PB for a little under 1 year and I'm still experimenting, rite now I am testing out the Lumber Jack Hickory/Char blend and it smokes a ton, ran a couple small cooks with it then mixed in a bag of Kingsford competition blend for a 50% mix that I like real well. Post back your cooks with pictures as this sight is easy to load them as they host them and you don't have to have a 3rd party do that. :emoji_wink:

Welcome to the site, happy to have ya join the fun. Most poopers here supplement the smoke with an amnts tube.

Thanks Fella's yea going to try to see how it does. I am considering using my kamado for most of the smoke cooks and the Pellet for everything else. One thing I am excited about is that here in AZ it gets real hot in the summer and would like to use the oven setting on the pellet instead of heating the house. Suggestions on what kind of pellet will cook but not provide a flavor or just a slight flavor?
