Kudos to your wife.
Can you explain sublimation printing to us dummies?
It is an ink based transfer printed onto special paper (obviously with sublimation Ink). It is then transferred onto the "medium" ie special coated mugs, license plates and a ton of other items including polyester clothing using a heat press.

The heat activates the the ink to migrate to the receiving surface with incredible color and detail.

If you have seen modern soccer jerseys or those bicyclists passing you with vibrant shirts, those are done sublimation.

Sublimation printing uses heat to essentially bring ink, fabric or special coating together as one.

First, a design is printed onto special paper. The inks that are used turn into gas when brought under heat, then combine with the fabric and permanently print onto the fabric or coating surface. The effects are permanent and less prone to fading, as the ink is embedded in the fabric or coating or substrate rather than simply laying on top like a normal print.

The process is almost like a tattoo, but instead of for your skin, it’s for your chosen product. The heat opens up the pores of the fabric, or coating then with the applied pressure the ink cools and returns to a solid form.

The result is a permanent, full colour image that won’t crack, peel or wash away from the substrate. The process allows the ink to go from a solid to a gas without turning to liquid, a bit like dry ice. The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled by pressure.
OK you type faster than me...lol

If you start doing beer glasses or mugs and can do one-offs I'd be interested in a Beer Pole mug.

Nice job on your initial mugs Rick.

The mug, or container has to be able to hold the print. Most have a food grade coating so the image will stay on. They do make a coating that can be applied on surfaces, but im not sure i want to get into the mixing of it yet. The spray on has some bad reviews.

Thanks

My wife is a 3 year breast cancer survivor. So we are big with the pink ribbon.

She asked me to make a couple mugs for her store.

Yup.

Awesome new hobby Rick, looks like fun!

Congrats to your wife Rick, we are huge supporters of breast cancer awareness! My Mom is a 14 year survivor of it and I thank God everyday for early detection!
