Over 8 hous I’ve drilling but it makes it easy to make fixtures and clamping I’m glad I did it

I finally got my tank back from sand blasting and had a little time to go out and work on my smoker, I’m getting ready to cut the end of the tank for my FB and was wondering what the height from the smoker plate to the bottom of the cooking chamber should be any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help.

I had a chance to get out and do a little work on it today, I cut the CC to FB opening today, I just set the CC on top of the FB to look at the fit, tight fit and no gaps, haven’t decided to put the fire box door in front or on the side, just wondering how long does my RF plate need to be, that is my next step, any help would be appreciated, thanks

Looking good. The Rf is supposed to have at least or a few more square inches opening at the end than your CC to FB opening.I haven't seen your thread in a while.Did you use the calculators?

I cut the CC to FB notch like SOCALCOOKER description in post#29 it is 18w x5.75 gif this is right I need to know how long to make my RF plate

Go here and scroll down to Firebox-to-Cook Chamber Opening.Read the last sentence in bold print and refer to drawing lower right. Most people make it a little larger. You could take a piece of cardboard, make a template of your FB/CC union and put the round end of template in end "cap" of tank to get what you need. The objective is to have a few more square inches of "airea" at the end of the RF plate. http://www.feldoncentral.com/bbqcalculator.html

I cut the firebox to cooking chamber opening at 18w x 5.75 inches high that is in the tank. I need to know how long I need to make the baffle plate or how long does the reverse flow opening need to be. Thats where Im stuck. I think the notch height is corecct I did it like SOCALCOOKER post #29 stated. I have NOT cut my firebox opening in the firebox cut yet

I'm trying to think of a better way to describe this than I did in post #51 but can't other than put the firebox in place joined to CC.Scribe from inside the tank onto the vertical side surface of the firebox the semicircle that exists.Cut that out of firebox(the vertical surface only, leaving the top of the FB alone).Take that piece of cutout metal and it will represent your air void at the opposite end of the tank from your FB.All this can be accomplished with a piece of cardboard for mock up purposes as stated in post #51

I ran my plate up to the dome weld on the opposite end. You want the opening to be about the same as the opening as you have from the firebox to cook chamber. Weld a piece of flatbar on edge at the end of the plate to stop grease from dripping under the plate. Put your plate above that 5.75" mark so the thickness of your plate doesn't shrink the space underneath.

I don’t quite understand the calculator

The drawing on the calc is looking at the smoker from the top.

Enter the throat area (FB to CC) given by whatever smoker calc you used, cut a piece of cardboard or something the same width as your BP and lay it in the CC to measure the bell end depth at that height. Then enter the BP width and the percentage of BP gap to Throat area you want.

So if you have a 24" diameter tank and the throat area is 125 sq.in. and the BP width is 20", cut something 20" wide to simulate the BP and lay it in the tank up to where the bell end starts. Measure at that height to the end of the tank. Enter all the parameters and , if you want the BP Gap same as the Throat area, leave the percentage at 100%. The calc will give you a measurement that the BP has to be from the end of the tank.

I finally got the smoker done and delivered a month ago my friend is very pleased with his gift and it could not work any better, im very pleased with the outcome i just wanted to thank everyone for their help, im looking foreward to my next build now.
