Hello All,

Have been researching for my build for a while now, and finally jumped into making one! It is 22in diameter and 40 inches long. It is an old water tank we had upstairs so we made that our candidate.  Cutting the lid was a chore since there was a support inside and of course a rubber bladder for the water...but with the plasma cutter it made things smoother.  I will be sure to post pics as we go along, next I need to get some 1/4in for the fire box and RF plate.

Here are a few to get you all started!

Good work bench

Bent some metal for a plasma guide

Took some thinking for the fire box opening...had to cut it so early so we could get in and cut the bracing just to get the lid free!

You can see the bladder on the right side of the tank. Took some extra work but looks like a normal chamber now!

Will post pics right along! Stay tuned

Had a little time this afternoon to get the hinges on, had some weld on ones so I put another piece of metal to act as a spacer on the back, also made for a nice spot to weld too.

The extra piece of metal may also help to keep the tank straight? Guess some extra support cant hurt, but thats what I did.

i'm still in.

Make shift plasma guide

Tacking the base together

Starting to look like a smoker!

As it sits currently, got a lot done tonight!
great looking build so far.....question about your plasma guide. are you dragging the tourch against the guide? when i have tried that ti just burns up the tip.

thanks david.

put the tip of the cutter against the guide and keep it moving, we have the plasma on the higher setting to help blow the metal out quicker. try on scrap metal, wont take long to get in the groove of things.

Was gone most of the day, had a few hours to work at it tonight.

Got the firebox door on! We made the door a little bigger so we could put angle iron around the box, this will be a good place to add our seal, dresses it up a tad too.

Cut a pipe into 5 sections for our hinge, used threaded rod in the center and put a nut on the bottom (it will not fall out since the bottom angle iron seal and door keep it up)

Picture of hinge and angle iron seal. All three sides got the angle iron, hinge side didnt need one.

Keep watching! More to come

Thats really strange then, We havent used the oxy to cut since we bought the plasma. Maybe unscrew the tip and make sure the  components are still good, something may be burned up causing your problems.  With ours it looks like a factory cut when done, smooth as glass.

Sounds like your plasma doesn't have a drag tip. Most plasmas need to be held just above the cutting surface to keep slag from blowing back in the tip.

Good point, didnt even give that a thought. We run ours right on the metal but I guess I should of thought of that earlier, probably the problem.
