So i just entered into my first competition. Its the Florida-Georgia Backyard competition during the Florida Georgia game here in Jacksonville. As you all know you cannot use electric in competitions so that means I cannot use my newly finished fridge. I happened to still have my master Forge propane smoker that I removed the propane unit out of. I purchased the Char grill SFB and bolted it to the side of the Master Forge chamber. Used the smoker calculater and cut a 5" X 5" inlet from the SFB into the smoker. I have never used charcoal before and I know it will require some babysitting but I want to insulate it as much as possible to help maintain heat so I dont have to add charcoal every 5 minutes. The problem with the unit I have it is very thin Metal, like 24GA. I am looking for a good exterior insulation I could use to fit around the smoker. I was thinking of making a playwood box to fit around three sides of the smoker leaving only the two doors exposed. between the wood and the side of the smoker I was going to put 3" fiberglass insulation. Do you think the wood would hold up ok with that much insulation around it?
