kc, morning and welcome to the forum.... Great looking start on the smoker.... Very unique.... I ran the numbers for your cook chamber through Aliens calculator.... The RF plate should be about 4.5" from the bottom of the cook chamber... can't tell from the picture.... Also, the opening between the firebox and cook chamber should be about 40 Sq in. If that opening in the last pic is for the firebox, looks a little small.... below are links to the calculators I used.... If you need help figuring this stuff out, I am here as well as other members on the forum.... We all would like your smoker to be the best in town and folks to drool over how well it cooks......
Thanks for the info.. Plate it's at 4"... The pass thru hole does need to be alittle bigger.. Do the calculations change at all for gravity-fed? Plan on insulating cook chamber, fb and charcoal chute. I helped a co- worker build a stumps clone and thought that there has to be a simpler way. Ill keep posting. Thanks
4" is OK.... that's about 25% larger than the FB to CC opening should be...
The calculator is for natural convection/gravity built smoker.... the numbers work well.... many a smoker has been built and used successfully following those numbers.... Dave
