Spring is a wild time up here. The deer and elk are birthing and the bears are waking up. This is a frame of a video that I cant figure out how to post. He was on the run tho.

Haven't seen any around the house this year...yet. Haven't seen any seen any sign but I haven't walked all of the property. My dog is pretty good at smelling them out, though, but he hasn't alerted. We are pretty good at not leaving anything out that may attract them, including the feeder for the humming birds. The wife isn't too happy about that. Good thing they are black bears who are normally not agressive. At least the ones we've had show up over the years aren't.

They have been popping up a lot lately in housing tracts around Southern California. It always makes a top news story.

I live 40 miles North of LA in the suburbs. It is still a large city but I live on the very edge of it. Nothing to the North or West of me other than the local freeway.

I regularly get rats, rabbits, op-sums, skunks, coyotes, snakes and raccoons running around outside the yard( It has a wrought iron fence with 1/4" mesh added ). Once in a while I spot a bobcat.

It has been a while but I used to take my previous dog on hikes behind our housing tract. He was off leash and would run after deer when he spotted them. My worry was he would chase them onto the freeway and get hit. Luckily that never happened.

One day we were walking there and luckily Yana was still on the leash. I looked up the hill and saw what I thought was a deer. I looked a little closer and it was a black bear. Luckily it did not want to meet us any more than we wanted to meet it. I slowly turned around and walked him back to the car before he spotted it.

Yana chasing a bunny in the same place.

Our local FB groups have all been posting bear pics as of the last couple days...so they are waking up for sure. Also moose and baby elk and moose. I havent seen either of those this spring. I need to make it down to the lake early for that.

Well, still haven't seen a bear yet, but I know there is one up and around the house. Took the dog out for his morning walk to the end of the driveway this morning. On the walk back to the house I noticed the cover for the travel trailer had been split on the horizontal seem on the side about ten feet long. In the middle of the split there was a triangle-ish piece torn out on the upper part of the cover and hanging on the lower part. A few holes punctured in the flap, mud smeared down the side of the trail, and of course tracks on the ground.

I still can't understand why a bear decided to tear up the cover for the life of me. It has been on there since last Nov after hunting season, so there shouldn't be any kind of scent on the cover. I'm going to try to fix the cover, and if I can't I guess I'll have to get another one. Hey, it's only more money, right?

Nice picture Dave, at least he is going the right way .

Mona would be out of her mind with all the wildlife, she worries me sometimes ( really all the time )
She thinks everything can be a pet and friendly

I have a few wifi camera up, thats how we get notified and see them. Randomly we have been sitting out when one walk by, or open the front door and one is stand right there lookin at ya. Cameras pick up way more critters than we would see othersise.

Thanks!

And I would scared too. Deer are generally harmless, but sometimes they give me a look and I give them space. Elk, give massive space, they get ornery and chase people all the time. Especially during birthing season (now). Bears that are not domesticated will run off with not much noise (screaming, banging, even opening the deadbolt scared one off.). The one to be scared of is the ones that dont respond to that. They will come after you.

Every once in a while, a cougar or bear will make its way into the Seattle city limits. Last time, I tracked the sightings on a map, and it looked like the bear was moving a few miles, making a bee-line to a Krispy Kreme shop.

Ours bee line for the garbage cans of the newbies who put them out the day before pickup. Thats how we know a newie has moved in: drive down the street and there is a huge mess and can knocked over. the make "bear proof" can and the trash company charges extra for them - they are useless. I determined bear will knock the can over and jump up and down on it till the lid blows open. Its quite obnoxious and wakes everyone up.
