Expanded metal question

I am in the process of acquiring materials for my UDS build. Regarding the charcoal basket, I see many of you have fabricated one out of expanded metal. My question is what type of metal is it? Especially cocerned with the galvination issue.

I would assume that since many have used this option it is safe. Just trying to be sure.

Also what gauge would you recommend for the basket?

Stuff I got was at home depot in sheets. It's stainless and I cut it with metal sheers. Wasn't to thick. 16 or 18 gauge . $10 per sheet. 24x12

Should say that I use it for charcoal and wood chunks.. not sure if it would hold up to stick burner loads.

Cheap tabletop grill base that the basket sits in. But remember. The air intake vents might need to be higher .

Some people just use a shop vac to suck out ashes the next day or 2
