Ok, So I am getting close on this project and was about to just cut my exhaust hole and weld my 6" pipe  in place when it occurred to me that I had this extra propane tank laying around. I had already done the calculations for my exhaust stack and now My question is, If i weld this extra tank on top of the firebox and cut a 6" hole into it from the cooking chamber, can this be considered part of my exhaust or will I have to add tons of pipe out the top of this.

I don't really want to have to weld a bunch of pipe out of the top of this. If i had to do that I will just leave the smoker alone as is.

Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated at this point. Thanks

    Worked for me.

    I guess I'm special!!!  LOL

Hey man I really love the connecting rod handle holders. Thats awesome

I had to re-read your post, I almost got confused but heres my take on things.

I am assuming that you are wanting to have the upright tank for a warmer chamber.  If this is the case then you would want to have your stack exit the cook chamber just on the helical end just ahead of the propane tank.

Then have a small opening from the FB to the warmer with a damper in it. And also a small exit stack on the top or near the top of the propane tank. This was you can adjust the warmer temps separate from the cook chamber. It wont take much to keep the warmer up to the temps you will need to maintain a safe temp.

Now if I am off track here and you want the upright so that you can smoke hanging meat then the others will have to chime in on if the tank will count for part of our stack length.

Once again please keep in mind that these are just my opinions, but even to smoke in the vertical I think I would have to build it with the set up like I mentioned for a warmer. I think it would run plenty hot with a 3" opening from the FB to the propane tank with a 3" stack about 6 to 8 inchs tall out of the tank. Dampers on both of course.

Please let us know how it turns out.
