Maybe pull back panel off and check wires. Might be as simple as a bad wire connection ? Buy ya some more time to shop around.

With the Mes unplugged and the back heating element access plate removed I disconnect the two wires to the heating element, then plug the Mes in the receptacle and press the power button and if it doesn't trip the GFCI then It should be the element leaking to ground. Also, with the the smoker unplugged and the wires disconnected to the heating element with an Ohm meter with one probe on the element spade and the other on the metal back of the smoker there should not be continuity, otherwise the element is leaking to ground. The metal outside jacket of the heating element on the bottom side has a seam that grease can run down the back wall onto the non heating part of the element at the back wall that can get in the seam, soak into the ceramic insulation and ultimately short the element to ground. If the back wall gets wet with grease splatters above the element, I wipe it dry so it won't run onto the element legs but I don't clean the smoker just knock off flakes on the ceiling and walls with a wire brush before changing the foil in the water pan/bottom drip pan. If you don't want to mess with this easy repair then make sure liquids don't get on the non heating part of the element.
