I have been volunteered to smoke a ham and a Turkey. Picked up a 9.5lb ham and about a 16lb Turkey. Anyone else get the same orders? I am cooking for about 12 people with lots of leftovers. Still waiting on details like, what does it need to be ready and when are we supposed to be there (going to my cousins). Any one have a simple glaze recipe? Emphasis on simple, have to entertain a 2 year old while it cooks. I think they will both fit on the Pit Boss at the same time.

I think Bearcarver Bearcarver has a really good and east glaze to make. Think in his posts of double smoked ham. I know it's delicious! Do a search for it...if you can't find it I think I have it written down.

My wife isn’t a fan of sweet glazed, I used this mustard molasses glaze a lot if you want something a little less sweet:
.5 cup stone ground mustard
.25 cup unsulphered dark molasses
.25 cup Orange juice
1 teaspoon ginger
.25 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine all in a small saucepan bring to simmer over medium. Stir occasionally for a minute then remove from heat. I normally glaze half way through the cook.

Good luck!

Case in point, I was typing he was trying to get me to play with him. Pretty sure he won.
I have a rubber mallet and nails in a 2x4 with full ends pointing up I sometimes give to my 4 year old when I’m out cooking, that keeps him busy. If I’m trying to build something I give him a drill with a low battery that he loves!

My son loved chain's, bungee cords, anything he could tie together as a youngster. Just glad I did a double check one day...he had a conglomeration of things connected from both garage door rails under my pickup, around the driveshaft. It would have been a mess!

1/3 cup maple syrup
1/2 tsp ground mustard
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
I think we are trying this one, I’ll let you know how it goes. Brokenhandle Brokenhandle , you make good food so you’re in according to people here. I am sure you are/will be an incredible grandpa. Just keep in mind, I had my first at 40 lol.

Here's a Test we did, back in 2011 (Yup--10 years ago)
I mixed up two different glazes for a test:

Glaze #1
1/2 C of Brown Sugar
1/3 C of Maple Syrup
1/2 tsp of ground mustard
1/8 tsp of ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp of ground ginger
1/8 tsp of ground cloves
Dash of ground nutmeg

Glaze #2
1/2 C of Honey
1/4 C of Balsamic Vinegar
1 tsp of cider vinegar
1 tsp of Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 tsp of garlic powder
1/4 tsp of ground ginger
1/4 tsp of allspice

Everyone here agrees---Glaze #1 is the best of the two.
This is where I did this test: (Twin Hams):
Double Smoked Ham Twins

Turkey is now in a bag in a bucket in the garage (it’s only about 38 outside) soaking in Meat Church Bird Bath brine. The better half wants to try the ham with just the glaze on it. Smoke and glaze, I’ll give it a shot.
