The other day, someone at the store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"
I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered any profanity. I was drug out to pull weed in my mother's garden and flower beds, and cockleburs out of Dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood. If my motherhad ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back out to the woodshed.
Those ***** are still in my veins, they still affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin. If today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.
God Bless the parents who drugged us.

I seen this on another forum I visit and thought you all might like it.

I was raised in that fashion and my son will be too. I think children today think they are owed some thing that they didn't earn.

I think alot of people take the I want my children to have the life I never had thought to far and forget what there life has taught them

You said it perfect brother !!! , When I was growing up if we " my brothers and my sister" ever backed talked Mom and Dad we got the back hand and Mom and Dad didn't think twice for doing it. I remember 1 time I was 15-16 years old my Dad ask me to do something and I was at the age when I though I was 10ft tall and bullet proof, I told Dad to kiss my a$$ I didn't have to! before I knew what happend he slapped me with his right hand and came around with a leftcross I never saw it comeing, the next thing I remember was laying on the frontroom floor looking at the celing and Dad looks down at me and say's " Son do I need to ask you again"

Mom always preached to us about right and wrong ,not a day went by when she didn't tell us " I love you" before we left the house and before we went to bed that night

One day I would love to be friends with my kids but now is not the time.

As for my Mom and Dad all I can say is .....Thank you so much for all the tough love I was shown , to me that's just another way of saying I love you and care for to much not to show you the right way in life.
