My dog refuses to eat anything with the Tylan powder period. Really bitter from what I am told. She use to take it but been very picky in her old age. I use a about 1/4 tsp. I am going to have to put into Capsules than into liverwurst. Looking for suggestions on how to best do this. Looks like will need the 000 size.

Not sure about the capsules, but maybe just mix it with the liverwurst or something put it in her mouth and rub her throat up and down, that usually makes them swallow, other then that I'm sure someone will chime in.

i'm not familiar with tylan
i'd skip the capsule
wet the powder into a paste and then into the liverwurst
liverwurst is a dogs best friend for meds

We've had good luck grinding up pills in a mortar and pestle, then mixing the powder with a tablespoon of peanut butter. That seems to work, at least for our dog, when nothing else will. You want to be sure the pills can be given as a powder; if they are meant to be a timed release formulation, don't grind them up.

I have filled them in the past with an herbal powder. They have kits on Amazon that work great. Just be sure to get the appropriate size. 000 may require hand filling but they have a kit for that too.

Liverwurst the only thing she will take pills in. I tried that and she said no way.
Been there . Had a female GSD that would not take meds . We used to buy the pill pockets . She could eat the treat part and spit out the capsules . Tried just mixing the powder with cheese or liverwurst . Nope .
Once it turns into a fight , you're done . They know what's coming .

Mine was on something for her " backside " . Common problem in German Shepherds . It was already in capsules . If it Tasted like it smelled , I know why she wouldn't take it .
Maybe check and see if they make it in a pill ( hard ) form .

They do but its a dollar a pill and at twice a day can get expensive. Thought if not to hard would try making.

Thanks I will take a look.

I tried peanut butter also. Going to have to go the pill route. I even had to start boiling chicken and using the broth just to get her to eat and than does not always work. She 11 now which is getting up there for a GSD. Lost most of them around 12.

All in all though she doing pretty good. Still take 1.5 mile walks and still pretty frisky. She just really picky now about food.

I ran into the same thing . My vet sent me to I think it was the Medicine Shoppe . They filled it for half the price . She still didn't take it so it didn't matter . Lol .
Good luck , I know you got it handled .

My mother used to cover pills and capsules with a dab of butter. Toss to the dog and it slid right down.

Luckily, the meds my wife's cat required didn't have much flavor and we got her to eat it mixed into wet canned food.
Vets are not cost effective places to purchase your pet meds. On-line is your friend

I put a little peanut butter on a bit of bread and fold the pills up in that. The same liver flavored pills that she'll happily chow down when the vet gives them to her, but when I try, nope, thats not a treat.

Last time my wife tried giving our older dog pills she tried hiding them in a hot dog...do you know how frustrated she was when I came home and dog hadn't eaten a pill? But he sure did like that 3/4 pack of hot dogs! Smothered in peanut butter or wrapped in cheese worked decent

Brian, go to your local pet store and buy one of these, you place the pill in it open their mouth and press the plunger. It's easy and they work great.

I have one. Only use when have to. First I got to get powder into pills. Going to check with the Medicineshop after Christmas. Thought there maybe a easy way to do myself.
