Do you use thermometer "strips"?

I was gifted some sourdough starter jars that come with the band (hours/days of the week) as well as a 'thermometer" strip.

Being kind of doubtful, I added hot water to the jar and stuck that strip on the side.

No change that I could see. I've seen lots of them advertised on amz and they usually get 4* ratings.

Mine does nothing.

Does anyone here use them? Do they really work?

I think I have the same jar as you have . Great jar . That band and temp strip are gimmicks in my opinion .
Designed for someone that doesn't make bread , to buy it for someone that does make bread .
Jar works great like this .

When I first started with sourdough I worried about the temp .
Now I understand that it's not necessary .
I don't need to know , or worry about the temp in the jar .

In direct answer to the question , mine did show temp just from room temp water .
Didn't last long though , neither did the band .
The whole thing about spinning it so you know what day you're on made me chuckle .

Yeah, I’ve decided that sour dough doesn’t really care about temperature. Beer, on the other hand, requires good temp control. The temp range for fermenting beer is about 46 to 58 for lagers, and 60 to 76 for ales. I have a couple carboys with the temp strip. I haven’t used them in years, but I believe they still work. I don’t know about the sour dough strips.

When the temp is within the range of that thermometer, it’ll turn blue or green. So, if the water temp is say 76f, the numbers will be a different color than the rest. If the temp is beyond the range in either direction, they’ll all be the same. They’re not 100% accurate, but if you’re using it for sour dough, it should be fine.

No I don't use them nor do I have any discarded to a drawer.
Temperature means nothing. You have to watch the rise (and fall) of the yeast bloom to determine the health of your starter.
I did a 1:2:2 feed earlier today. Feed was around 75° ambient temperature with cold filtered water from fridge pitcher. Ambient will be around 69° by morning. Starter will bloom and usually be falling sometime in the morning.
