Do you still go to your State or County fair?

That sounds like a good time, that's how they do our local bar rib contest. I've won it two times so I'm out, but I get to judge next yr.
Does this mean after two wins, you can't compete anymore?

We have large chili cookoff that has been going on for 30+ years, with 40+ teams, and 3,500+ attendees. A lady on the FedExpress team won the green chili category so many times in a row, she voluntarily stopped entering.

A few years ago went to a County Fair about 30m from here as daughter's cheer team with in a competition there. Had VERY low expectations BUT soon found cold cheap beer and some fantastic food in particular, a fried veggie stand that was ASTOUNDINGLY good which my family all agreed was best we ever had.

OMG so funny to see people say State Fair is ghetto but yeah there is some truth to that. I decided to embrace that and go to a fried chicken stand where let's just say I stuck out LOL. Got a small order and used the mystery hot sauce in a water bottle and it was damn good eats. I am 99% sure after doing all this pickling I have done, that hot sauce was Frank's/Crystal/etc cut with some pickled red hot brine or the like.

I went to our local county fair one year. It was when my wife and I first moved to Arkansas. Never again. We didn’t fit in. We were both wearing deodorant and my wife had/has teeth.
So... you're saying you fit in now? We've seen your teeth! :emoji_blush:

I was just thinking about the horse races last year in Tillamook.
Tragedy, when one horse tripped about 20 yards out of the starting gate and broke a leg.
Comedy, when 2 other horses decided they could run faster without that dead weight on their backs, and quickly bucked off their jockeys. 110 lb jockeys make for poor rodeo bronc riders.

Haven't been to the Ohio State Fair in years. Better people watching than at Walmart. Just not my thing.
First time I went I was pretty young so it all went over my head. We loved it since we got stuff that you could NEVER get today as kids like chinese stars and butterfly knives.

The guys gave me a good razzing over winning again, so I said I would retire that way they had a chance.
All in good fun of course. So it was my decision. Now I can just eat some ribs and drink a few beers.
Normally it's 100* or more during the cook-off, and I can't handle the heat anymore. We got lucky this yr it was only 85* for the cook, that's about max temp for me these days.
It's been hotter than anything out here the past few weeks, And it makes me feel crappy these days.
So if I have a choice, You'll find me in the AC house, or in a pool.

I made ribs for a family party a week after the contest, they turned out so much better in my opinion, eeryone said that they were my best to date.
I did them on the pellet grill, at 255 for 3 1/2 to 4 hours no wrap.
I didn't usethe Kosmo glaze, so they didn't get nearly as dark.
They made me feel like I knew what I was doing . LOL!!!

Snappy’s Premium Corn Dog mix will absolutely get you a $10 corn dog. We don’t do cheese curds or blooming onions, but we can do most other fair food on our own, including kettle korn.
We stopped going over a decade ago, things got sketchy at Wisconsin state fair after sunset. The county fairs aren’t much better but the food prices are outrageous so we may do an hour or two to get something we’re dying for, but it’s not enjoyable like it used to be.

I just bookmarked this.
Thank you very much for the tip.
I will order some very soon.
I see that Amazon carrys it.
Probably a little more money, but it's not a bad price at all.

Dan.

Yeah, and they probably came from my aunt's store. From the mid-60s until 2000 or so they sold all that crap to the carnies. The stuffed animals, the toys and trinkets, the tickets, came from The Yankee Trader. Her husband was a carnie, interesting group of people.

And I'm thinking the carnies make some pretty good money... Have you seen some of the higher end Motor Homes they drive...
