I've been trying to buy organic veg for a few years, and suffering from the cost of same at times.
Here's the two lists everyone needs to consider when shopping at the supermarket.

I was pleasantly surprised that some of the things I have been paying premium prices in organic form for are pretty safe, pesticide wise, in non organic offerings.
Also, I read recently that pesticides contribute to prostate cancer.
Now THAT should get everyone's attantion.

Hate to reply to my own post but now I'm looking into pesticide/fungisides in non organic meat, rice and flour.
News is not good.
The health problems caused by some of these chems, over a long time, are very concerning.
But as I'm on an "eat less" kick anyway and as much as possible, I'm going to buy more expensive organic meat and that should take care of eating less, as the prices of organic goods will limit how much I can afford and therefore limit how much I eat.
Problems solved.

Totally with you. But even buying organic isn't a sure win.
If I buy organic kale at the store, there isn't but 1 or 2 bug bites in the bunch.
If I grow it in the garden, there isn't a leaf WITHOUT a bug bite.

There are pesticides allowed in organic farming too! We try to eat a variety of foods and foods in season (to enforce the variety). Sometimes buy organic.
Thanks for sharing the list!

I read about the pestidices allowed on organic veg and while I'm not a fan, they are less harmful to humans, seemingly.
On a side note, there's a chain food store here (for a few years now) called Sprouts Market and they offer a wide varitey of organic fruit and veg and at pretty good prices.
I can source a few veg items at other stores labled organic but Sprouts Market has quite a few offerings..

I just saw an article where a high school student won a science price for inventing (with major league help) a hand held device that detects pesticides on produce.
He stated he hopes to get them into the hands of end users so we can all be aware of what's in our food.

I've watched the dirty dozen list. It fluctuates a bit
I find it odd that kale and greens are on the dirty list, but cabbage is on the clean list. All in the Brassica family and hit by the same pests

Yeah Sprouts is a good store. They also made the news as one of the retailers offering a brand of organic carrots contaminated with E. coli

Many of the items on the clean 15 list must be peeled to consume so you would not come in contact with any pesticides.

We raised spinach, watermelon and peanuts. There were no outhouses in our fields. Wash your vegetables well :)

"Organic" is basically a marketing term to make you think it is better. A number of the pesticides deemed "organic" are actually more toxic than traditionally used ones.

Boy howdy do I know about that recall..I ate some raw carrot yesterday I bought at wally that was in the recall batch.
I was peeling several to convert to sticks and I remembered reading about an e-coli contamination recall.
I did a quick check and sure enough Marketside branded carrots are on the list.
Called the wally where I bought them and read off the UPC code, bingo..recalled.
Great, just f'ing great.
Called my sister, a nurse, and theres nothing to be done,
I decided to drink whiskey thinking it might kill off a few thousand of the critters and if not I could at least get them drunk.
Worked on me anyway.
One to four days to wait to see if I got a dose.

We got the affected carrots from Costco and had been letting our 6 month old use them as teething toys (in addition to our other kids eating then raw constantly). Got the call from Costco after about 5 days of that...
Thanks to God, so far so good here.

I can't wait for the organic version of soylent green to come out!
