Credit Card Fraud

We've been pretty lucky. A couple times the CCC caught suspicious charges over the years but its very rare. We dont do a lot of traveling, dont know if that has anything to do with it. I've had to get a couple cards reissued to me over the decades but nothing like some of the stories here.

I actually registered a complaint...cant remember which card it was...for them thinking they caught fraud. There is a discount coupon thing around here, it gets advertised on the radio station my wife listens to. Local businesses sell certificates/coupons for half price (get a $50 for $25, etc.) and they are often restaurants we either want to try or already know we like.

Thing is, they go on sale at 9AM Friday morning online and there are only so many offered...they sell out sometimes in minutes. So my wife pays attention to who's offering and sets her alarm...she's usually sitting there with her computer in her lap anyway at 9AM.

She tells me she lost a deal because the card wouldn't go through and by the time she tried to use another one the deals were all sold. I called and confirmed the CCC blocked it because it didn't look right to them for whatever reason. I said, "I appreciate your vigilance but you just cost me $100 in savings!.

I need to look at alert options, my bank has caught the last two suspicious charges the day they were made, and overnighted me a new card. My auto-payments even transferred over to the new card. They advised me there is an On/Off option for credit cards, but you need to log-in to your account to activate it.

Thanks , thats a good feature Wayne, I had to do all the transferring of my auto payments myself.

I could set up my phone alerts on my bank account on line , and could pick the amount that I wanted to be alerted to. I picked $50. So last time I was hit , they tryed a small item of about $14. for rubber gloves, that went through, but when the big item went through at $300. it does not stop it it justs asks if it was me and if not call this number. So I did after I called the wife to make sure it was not her. Found out when I called the card # that it was in another Province on a Sunday.

Not sure if it helps or not, but my credit card company let's me set up virtual cards to use for certain places so if it gets hacked they don't actually get my card number . Maybe still can hack it... not sure.

I use virtual cards by Privacy. I have all my monthly cards "locked" to water co, electric trash etc. Card number can only be used by the authorized vendor. Set up alerts on other cards. Once fraud is detected then off the card get a new one issued. The rest of my bill paying life goes on.

All those pending charges are coming through. I would of though they would of put a hold on them. Guess just need to give it some time to work out.

I called and they said I have to report them as they get posted. Seems like they could stop them from being posted? Still have four more $150 pending.

Yes, Capital One has this and I use virtual cards for all of my online purchases. I immediately lock the virtual card after the purchase. I have about 90 virtual cards...

My CC is a BJs Capital One card. The virtual card option is nice.

Mine was compromised a couple months ago with Walmart, also. They seem to have a real problem with this.

We in store purchase from Walmart frequently. NEVER on line purchase. Walmart is a walk across the street in FL and a short drive in MN.
WE use 1 card for auto pay and any online orders and I track them online. Never used for for any walk around purchases.

We have a Scheels I think it is a VISA from Omaha Bank card that alerts me to ALL purchases.
Not sure if other cards have that option. It takes about 10 minutes for the text alert

Had to go to Chase Bank today to work this out. There where so many $150 charges was hard to keep track of what they refunded. I figured 3 that I still needed credit for and that was what it was. Hopefully this the end. Last card theft they charged the new card before I even used it! They could not tell me though why they cant stop pending transactions that they know are fraud!

Chase is our main everyday use CC for grocery, restaurant, fuel, etc. We have had zero incidents with it outside of a waitperson that tried to add themselves a $50 tip when a cash tip was left on the table. Restaurant notified and we got refunded by Chase.
My wife now makes sure to hand carry a tip to the wait person so the bus person doesn't pocket the tip thus pissing off the waitperson to avoid padding the bill. I also take a photo of the bill in front of staff showing NO tip left on the CC.
We also have no auto pay or online links on that card.
When you get issued a new card number, they often notify your auto pay and online links so it sounds as fraud in an online link.

I looked under stored cards and they where listed there with new card number. I called chase and they said they dont have the whole number and cant use it. I think as soon as I receive my last $450 refund I will cancel card just to be safe.
