I'm buying a cord of wood and have the option of buying Hickory or Oak for the same price. which would you choose for everyday burn? I'm thinking oak .

I agree. I'd say it's a good idea to go with the oak as a heat source. Then you can add in sticks or chunks of other wood to vary the flavor. If you use primarily hickory as your heat source, EVERYTHING is going to taste like hickory, even if you add in other wood to try and mask it. Sometimes that might not be the flavor you want.
