Which is preferred for sealing the cook-chamber door? I leak pretty bad. Can't decide between Hi-temp RTV or felt tape. Pros and cons of each?

After reading tons of posts on here I went with the red RTV. It has worked well and closed up most of my gaps. Hardest places to seal was underneath where smoker doors close and butt up against the top. Just hard trying to squeeze the tube and get it in there to where it would stick. I got it but it could probably use more.

That's kinda the way is thinking. Did you do all around at once, or a side at a time?

I went with felt for now but I have the RTV (Black) on hand I used to seal up other gaps. Haven't fired it up yet, but my door is outta whack already so I know I'll have a leak just hoping I can keep a good temp.

Well I have 4 smokers that all leak smoke from everywhere, but the bottom line is it really doesn't matter. They hold their temps & get plenty of smoke on the meat with all the leaks. But that's just how I roll!

Am no expert but I think Al your spot on. As long as you're holding a temp your just fine. If it bugs you that it's leaking by all means try and plug it up. If your having problems holding a temp then sure try and plug that up a little see if helps!

Haven't used my off-set enough to see how well it holds heat, did ok with the wings Sunday. Just always heard they need to be sealed. My vertical, I've never done any sealing on. It leaks like crazy, but works fine.

I ordered this stuff today and my smoker doesn't come till June 1st. :D

It will work better when it's sealed up air tight..
