It was a lake effect snow from that low spinning out over the gulf lifting humid air north over the frigid artic air. Heavy snow that dumped for hours all day.

Difference being that up north, they know how to deal with a ton of snow. More of a minor inconvenience for a day or two up there, mostly.

I don't recall the year, but we got 28 inches of snow overnight and it took the crews a week to get I-75 open again for travel. They had the National Guard ferrying doctors and nurses between Richmond and Lexington, where they worked, in Humvees.

The county and city crews got most everything open for local travel pretty quick though longs you had a 4x4.

It was probably 96, or there about when everything shut down around here for weeks.

I believe 93 was the year my granny passed and we took her body back to jersey to be buried next to grandpa. 96 was more likely when we got snowed in.

I remember late '96 record snowfall shutting down many parts of the country.
It took us 4 days to get from Seattle to my parent's house in MN to spend Christmas. Then spring of '97 was record flooding and wiped out a lot of areas.

Yup. It melted fast here too. We don't flood here in the mountains but lower areas had some water in areas I never had seen before

I read that FL, was loaning LA their whole fleet of snow plows, to help LA get the roads open more efficiently.

LA is confused why there are snow plows when the city is burning up. Maybe they should have sent them to La instead.

we got a lot of snow here which was a nice change of pace. our bad winter storms are usually mostly ice and sleet/freezing rain/wintry mix which always freezes. really poor road prep beofrehand makes for bad times. we got about 8" of snow which is a lot for here and basically no ice. i welcomed it plus our 19 month old got to play in snow for the first time

Crazy weather for the south for sure. Last spring we had a 5' snow storm. lasted a couple days. I was close to syphoning gas from my truck for the snowblower. For the most part, things went on as normal, just a little slower. Got plowed a couple times which was pretty amazing.
