I noticed chips burn up quickly. I want to keep from opening and was thinking that chunks would last longer. What is a normal burn time for the chunks?

I haven't timed the chunks...find that mine last 3-4 times longer. Think it depends on the heat and where your chip tray is located. I know some of the other guys will have that down to a science and can help. Happy New Year!

Depends on the smoker type, proximity to heat source, heat output, amount of air getting to smoke wood and mods, regarding time the chips/chunks will smoke. You can get long smoke time from chips if you dial-in the heat and air, but chunks are easier if higher heat and smoke output is desired for a particular meat, or when smoking in inclimate weather. For chips to produce a long smoke, a fairly snug package with some form of air control on the box is a good start.

A Sleepy Hollow LPG. Single vent on the back. I smoked jerky this morning and closed vent down and the chips lasted the amount of time I smoked the jerky.
