I am writing this due to a number of posts that have "philly cheesesteaks" in the title. The title "Philly Cheesesteaks" alone has bothered me for a number of years. There is no such thing as a philly cheesesteak.... it's just a cheesesteak. Three simple rules for a cheesesteak if you want it to represent what philly does. Ribeye Steak (nothing else, no ground beef , if it has ground beef then don't call it a philly cheesesteak), wiz, american, or provolone cheese, and fried onions. Many people outside of philly for some reason put green peppers in it which does not make it a philly cheesesteak. Plus there is no such thing as a philly cheesesteak if it isn't made in philly. I thought i was anal about this until i googled the topic and it's been going on for years. If it's called a philly cheesesteak it's most likely garbage. Good roll (not hard), rib eye, cheese (a listed before), and onions (optional, wit or wit out).

Welcome to the forum.
Since you have that all figured, here's a short list of new research topics for ya:
Chicago Dog
Swedish Meatballs
Texas Brisket
Shepherd's Pie
Virginia Ham
If you would rather not do the research, you could just put style in between the two words of each topic.

As an old philly boy, I have to say I generally agree. But, frankly, ribeye steak is simplely way too high quality for a real steak sandwich. Now maybe they have imprived the quality of the meat in recent years. I haven’t lived in philly in almost 50 yrs but back in the day I was a hardcore Pat’s guy.

Can I have my 5 minutes back? That's like me saying I'm making Buffalo wings. Clearly it's my style of Buffalo wings, which will most likely be different from authentic Buffalo wings.

Buffalo's don't have wings.... :emoji_rolling_eyes: :emoji_laughing:
I've been close enough to touch one. Huge beasts! No wings.

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches. I like them! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheesesteak
Variations are quite welcome!
Would you, OP, go to a restaurant and argue with the Chef about his specialties?
I've watched people who get some kind of a kick out of going to a restaurant and insisting something be prepared exactly their way. They are an embarrassment to those with them.
Make it yourself at your own home, your way. That way any spit in it can be your own. :emoji_wink:

A pork butt is not from a pigs butt
A Cuban Sandwich can't be a Cuban Sandwich unless it's made in Cuba I guess
Key lime pie can only be made with limes from the Keys I guess

I'm sure there are many more I'm not thinking of right now

Nice. Already know shepherds pie and made a Texas brisket three weeks ago. Damn good.

All foods have origins. The common names become an easy way to pay respect to the original person, restaurant, town, region or country of origin who is given credit for creating the food. Or to differentiate that type of food from similar items. Caesar Salad...Ceasar Cardini hand made his signiture salad in his restaurant in TJ Mexico. Caesar Cardini died in 1956, does that mean Romaine Lettuce dressed with Lemon, EVOO, Anchovy, Dijon Mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Black Pepper, Parmesan Cheese and Croutons should only be called Romain Salad unless made by Caesar Cardini? How about Parker House Rolls, Kentucky Hot Browns, Bowl of Texas Red, Szechwan Chicken, Thai Iced Tea, Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies, Kielbasa, German Potato Salad, Southern Fried Chicken, a Hamburger (the name shortened from Hamburg Steak), Boston Baked Beans, Genoa Salami, California Sushi Rolls, Salisbury Steak, Welsh Rarebit and so on. ALL have to be eaten where they were created or we have to change the name removing the place of origin or include the qualifier " Style "? That would require a heck of a lot of Travel to get Chinese Take-out or Cater a Family Picnic, not to mention having to Edit a few Thousand Years of printed Cookbooks and Restaurant Menus!!! For this former Jersey Boy and Pat's regular, an Italian Roll topped with any Shaved Beef I can afford, Fryed Chopped Onion and Cheese Whiz or more frequently, Cooper Sharp American Cheese, is a Philly Cheese Steak...JJ

Well I don't know Jack, but this is the best roast I have enjoyed for a while...welcome walsh..it's all in fun at how we all tend to use a name that most will recognize the basic meal type...now what were we roasting...lol:emoji_laughing:
