Charbroil H2O Conversion

I just bought a Charbroil H2O. Got this 25% off the regular price. Figured that this would hold up better then my Good Eats version that I was going to attempt on Monday. However, I plan on making a minor change. I bought a plate warmer (single eletric burner) for my initial plan. I will just flip the bottom bowl and put the burner on top. Then use my Charbroil as an electric smoker. Has anyone else done this? If so, any problems?

I use a dual electric plate burner. It is being used with an old refrigerator but the concept is the same.

What about using this kit to convert or creating a metal disc that you can set the burner you purchased on that fits the bottom of the unit?
