I still renew mine...
Same.

I also don't open carry. I tried it a few times with my big beautiful Beretta but that damn thing is as heavy as, well, a big metal gun - with 18 rounds in it..... I do want to try it an a shoulder holster.

It's funny because when I was younger I concealed a 1911 - which is heavier. That was really nice in a shoulder holster, even though I absolutely refused to carry it in C1 - because machines fail and a gun is a machine. Old and lazy now..... so I guess I just notice the weight more.

Round difference just about evens the weight out but I swear a 1911 is 4 lb's lighter lol

Good for you guys protecting yourselves. Unfortunately the constitution does not include California.
I know at least 11 people that live in CA that carry daily and refuse to get a permit, myself included. Hell, they don't even prosecute criminals here in CA, so I just mind my business and don't telegraph my piece.

The 2nd Amendment clearly spells it out, and yes it applies to even CA.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Weapon Possession as a Fundamental Right!!!

I've had my CCL for 20 years and will continue to renew even though KS is a Constitutional Carry state now. Renewal is free. Whenever I buy a new firearm my 4473 gets fast tracked. That is nice! Back when I took the course it was two days of classroom and range time. And expensive! I think it is more affordable now but you must still jump through all of the hoops such as finger printing, passport photo and approval by the county sheriff and then St. Att. General. It is still very well worth it for the education alone.

I HAD A CCW PERMIT IN CA FOR OVER TEN YEARS, EASY TO QUALIFY IF YOU LIVE IN A RURAL COUNTY. MOVED TO AZ FIVE YEARS AGO, NO PERMIT NEEDED AS LONG AS LONG AS ONE IS LEGAL OWNER. THE OLD WEST LIVES ON HERE! RAY

Had mine for about 14 years now, got 2 years till this 1 expires, I will renew even though we can carry in Tn, it is a enhanced carry permit here, carry 1 any way I want, permits are good for 8 years, they also have a lifetime, at my age a 8 year permit will probably see me till the end. we shall see, If I go out of states I can carry there without issues if they are reciprocal.

Never been a fan of any gun laws but have kept my ccw up to date here in Ohio. The class was pretty boring and the qualification was ridiculously dumbed down when I took it.
Don't carry on my body often, but pretty much always have a pistol in my day pack I carry around every day. Plus you never know how many guns might be in "The Silver Bullet" ( my truck) at any given time lol.
Ive always had the mindset (especially before I had my ccw and when it comes sbr's) that I do what I want and to only "break glass in case if emergency "!

I actually let my Kentucky CCDW expire. We have constitutional carry now so the only reason I'd need the permit is if I were to go out of state. I haven't left the state in years.

Also, having the permit means I don't have to get a background check when making a firearms purchase from a dealer, which I'll pass anyhow, and really ain't in the market to buy anything else.

They just put my CCDW number on the 4473 in place of the background check. Kentucky CCDW holders get a monthly background check done by the state police.

If I ever want it back, all I have to do is send an application with the documents from the class I already did to get it in the first place.

Bingo Florida decided you no longer needed a ccw to conceal carry but many states won't allow you to carry in their state without the ccw. When you go to buy a new gun you walk out with it with a ccw without you have waiting period.
If you served in the military and have a DD214 it replaces the practical part and makes it an easy 4 hour class.

Ain't any waiting period regardless of ccw status here as long as NICS doesn't cause any delay. Better yet, buy used, person to person and there is no paper trail.
Actually here a long gun doesn't require a wait but hand guns do without the ccw

Ohio requires filling out the FFL form and waiting for approval over the phone. CCW or not.
FL requires the FFL form then a call in background check then a waiting period on handguns unless you have a ccw then there is no wait. Used to be those of us with a ccw didn't have to go through the call in background check but they changed it

It isn't that way here in KY on a long gun or pistol.

As I said earlier, having a Kentucky CCDW means they don't have to do the NICS check at the time of purchase, but even if they do, it's usually a fast process and you're out the door pretty quick unless there is a delay through NICS.

What bothers me is you can't buy a handgun in another state the NCIS background is national so why not. I can get to a Rural King in under 1/2 hour but it's in GA the nearest one in FL is about 3 hours

I don't know why it is, but interstate handgun sales must be transferred through a FFL in the state where you live. Even if you were to sell me a handgun from your personal collection, it would be illegal unless the transfer went through a FFL in my state even though we can both legally possess said handgun.

Interesting factoid, our permits are called CCDW (Concealed Carry of Deadly Weapons) in Kentucky more or less because it includes most any deadly weapon .... knives not considered ordinary pocket/belt knives, billy clubs, martial arts weapons, etc.

When the original "Must Issue permit law" went through the legislature, it didn't prohibit carry in bars, so all the folks up in Louisville were having a regular fit saying it would be like the wild west. As a compromise, the legislature rewrote the bill to exclude carry in bars, but they also included the additional weapons as legal to carry by permit holders lol.
