Canada Fires and Smoke

Im sure most of us have seen the new about the horrible fires in Canada that have destroyed communities and heritage that has been there for hundreds of years.

With the fires there is tons of smoke that is being felt in Canada and the US. Lets pray that this fire can get under control sooner than later and that those with respiratory issues can stay safe during this unsafe air quality. One of my kids is in the northern part of the country and is dealing with it as well.

Lastly, during times like there try to be respectful with comments because sometimes making like of the issues can trigger someone who is dealing with them and not doing well. Remember its hard to understand intent thru text sometimes so make sure you clarify before jumping to conclusions.

I've got a family member with respiratory issues, and North Idaho sees a lot of smoke (some Canadian, some home-grown) during fire season. So I've bought a couple of these air purifiers, and I can't recommend them highly enough. We started with one unit in the bedroom, but for $200 each, it made sense to put another in the between the kitchen and LR, and another downstairs.

Rated to clean 1200 SF, with is pretty high capacity. Quiet enough to sleep next to, Timer, nightlight function, oscillation option, 5 power settings, top rated or very near the top by Consumer Reports.

But what is really wonderful is that both the prefilter and the HEPA filter are washable. Consumer Reports noted that nearly all air purifiers require replacing the filters periodically, and that annual filter cost will generally exceed the cost of the purifier. Not here; we knock the dust out of the pre filter 2-3 times a year, and the unit alerts us that the HEPA filter needs a quick wash maybe once a year.

I've no experience with it, maybe someone here has. Looks like the replacement filters run $26-$40 from the manufacturer, third party filters cheaper but who knows how good the quality control might be. It's a pretty small unit, so I'd expect the filters to have a shorter lifespan than the bigger purifiers.
