Camp chef over feeding pellets

I just got my camp chef xt pellet smoker yesterday and it says to run it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I filled it with pellets and ran it for 7 minutes like it says to move the pellets to the cup. After that I set it to 350 and it goes for a bit and smoke starts up then 10 minutes later it says “flames out” and the cup is overflowing with pellets. Has anyone else had this problem or know what to do?

Did you notice how far into that 7 minutes it was before you could first hear pellets dropping into the empty crucible cup? (It's such a delightful sound, in my opinion!) Camp Chef may ask as part of their diagnostic plan.

For me, starting with a fully purged-out auger, it's about 5 minutes to "first pellets". At that point I stop the "prime" cycle, add 1/2 cup of pellets to the pot, put the pieces back in, then set and forget. (Or set and prepare meat to add a few minutes later, and then forget.)

But for sure with a brand-new unit you should follow the instructions religiously and call factory support when things don't work as promised. Good to hear from Bob that Camp Chef has good service!

The cup overflowing with pellets isn't because the grill fed too many, it's because the pellets didn't catch fire. The grill kept feeding until it determined there was no fire, hence the error "flame out."

Did you shut the grill down completely before ramping it up to 350? If not, you may have gotten some smoke because the pellets started to smolder on the hot-rod while it was cooling down, but not enough for them to catch fire. Then extra pellets dropped and put them out. Have you tried emptying the pot and trying to start it again?
