I have in the past calibrated my temp probe on the smoker cabinet to be pretty close to my ET 73 readings.....lately it is starting to fluctuate from a good reading or a match with the ET 73...

My question is....has anyone found that the build up of grease and whatever on the probe is effecting it's accuracy....?

I for one have never cleaned it off and think I may try and see if the build up does affect it's readings.....

I clean my grate probe regularly as I don't want the "muck" to build up on the end of the probe and create an insulated-effect, thereby throwing off the temp a bit.

I have been having the same issue with my analog turkey fryer probe that is in the side of my UDS. It use to be right on with my two digital probes but the past two smokes the analog one has been WAY off from my digital ones. I have not cleaned off my analog one or checked it in boiling water lately but I have to get to the root of it before I smoke the next time. Just seems strange that it all of a sudden started to be way off.

I use two oven thermometers that I keep on the grates inside the smoking cabinet. If I don't keep them clean they take longer to read accurate and then after a while they read a little high.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to clean the probe off and see what happens. Let us know what you find out.
