I am looking at poring a small pad of concrete to put up an inexpensive building  to do my grilling and smoking. Right now when im smoking or grilling wind, rain, and snow all seem to be a factor so I had the idea of building a sort of screen porch maybe 11' x approx 14-15' and have it as a bug free place to hang out and a place to permanantly keep my 2 grills and smoker and use them in as well. I would eventually duct my MES40 right out the roof or wall...(I think that would work ...Right?).  Winter is a factor with this as well, I was thinking of having 3 walls maybe 60% - 75% screen and the back 14' wall solid and having a way of closing off the screen in the winter months and poss firing up a small wood stove for smoking in the winter just to take the chill off... Well Im sure someone somewhere has done something like this so any ideas or photos of what you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's nice to have a place out of the weather for smoking and grilling. I have a 30 x 48 foot shop building where I keep mine. Neither my smoker or my grill have ever been rained on, it would break my heart. The smoker is not as much of a problem. It sits in front of a window with a 20" box fan in the window sill. It keeps the smoke pulled out great. The problem comes when you need to open the door. The smoke billows out, but if you open the door very slowly the fan can keep up pretty well. If you open it quickly things are going to get smokey in there. The grill smokes so heavy when I open it that it is unworkable with just the window and fan. I installed a range hood to try to make it work but it was not up to the job. When I find the time I plan to make a larger, better hood that can handle the volume of smoke and I will have it made.   If your building is mostly screened it should work fine. I would still look into a large exhaust hood. With forced draft you can vent out of a wall and not have to worry about venting through the roof.

I have a 3 sided shelter with a roof over top, The walls are all solid, I used the better quality ripple plastic stuf for the wall sheeting, it is the clear stuff to let in the light. I di have a window but rarely open it.

My smoke shack is roughly 8 feet by 10 feet with a 8 foot high cieling, with it open on the down wind side, I don't have any smoke problems at all.

I see tghat you are in a normally colder climate in the winter than I am here in the pacific northwest, but long story short, what you are suggesting, makes good sence to me, I think it will work great for you.

I'm ridin this thred---Wife & I were just talkin about putting patio blocks down so I've got someplace for my smokin toys.  Got a metal shed I use my MES in during bad weather, but now place for the UDS or Weber grills.

Bring on the ideas!
