Bug zapper.

Morning folks!
Almost all of our previous camping trips have been lake front with breezes strong enough to usually keep those blood suckers at bay. Our new camp site is different. And while I'm usually not targeted too much. Ann's getting slaughtered! Until I get a few remote outlets in. I needed an alternative way to keep them under control.
So, Ann enabled me!

These appear to be legit. We had a 120 volt one years ago. And I hated emptying it. This drops them to the ground. Just hose off occasionally. We'll find out tonight.
 
Steve I hunt in a nasty swamp on an island in Notcals CA Delta.
The skeeterz cold carry a grown man away . I don't use spray anymore after I started using these.
I'll add a link in a second.
I'm telling you, once you turn a few on, it's like a wall of steel around you.
In our 17' long duck bind we place one in the center, and very rarely does anyone get bit anymore. Walking in I wear the portable on my belt, in the blind we use the lantern style .

They run on a small nonrefillable butane cartridge. Save the empty cartridges,there are google videos that show you how to make them refillable, super easily.

The chemical is damn near scentless, and they last for hrs. I use mine over a whole weekend of hunting, sometimes more. I save the old chemical taps in a Ziploc, and reuse them until they stop working, by using two of them sticking end to end in the holder.

Im telling you, we don't call them the wall of steel for nothing, they freak'in work amazing.

Here's the one I wear on my belt or use in a tent .

I see they havenew produts, a rechargeable unit, that might be better for you situation.

Seriously, look into them, they aren't stupid expensive, and they work!!!

We have those too. Just forgot to bring them out. And wanted a solution that didn't require replacing fuel cells or the pads. I have a one to clip on your belt. And a tabletop one.

They work great in calm weather. Or in a gazebo.
 
I see an ad for this big round freestanding unit on the sportsman channel all the time, Ill see if I can find it online. It's for the yard.
 
This doesn't work for everyone. Have a friend who was in the peace corps down in Costa Rica. Take a 250mg vitamin B1 daily. We don't use any sprays or other deterrents. If we do get bites then they are very thick!

I haven't seen a bug zapper for years, but I seem to remember they have a tendency to attract more bugs to your area.

If you're looking for a plug-in trap then I highly recommend the Dynatrap line,they work and are much better than a traditional zapper.


Admittedly I'm paranoid about ticks and mosquitos having had lyme and knowing someone who had west nile I have a dedicated set of really lite clothing that I soak in permethrin. And I use a picaridin based skin protectant on exposed skin,you don't really feel it and no smell to really speak of.

That's the style I'm looking at once I get the camp set up with outlets. Or just keep using this one if it does a decent job.

I like the solar one that drops the bugs on the ground. I might put a couple of the pond to act like Koi feeders?
 
I think bug zappers are great! the one you got looks like its got it all.

We dont have many bugs up here, thankfully! I am a bug magnet, they love me and I hate them. I have one of the tennis racket bug zappers for anything that gets in the house. Pretty fun.

But all the time I spent in SLC, AKA wasp heaven, I got stung at least once a a summer and developed an anaphylactic reaction to their venom. Last bite on my toe, my leg swelled up to my hip. Now I get to carry an epi pen the rest of my life...

oh the epi pen, they are so big, can't keep them in the car summer or winter. My wife carries mine with a Benadryl rubber banded to it.
 
Those rackets are Fun and effective! I recently upgraded my bug arsenal with a Bug-a-Salt Shredd-er, pricey but fun. Blast them with CO2 propelled table salt! Made short work of carpenter bees!u

yeah, shellfish here...no fried foods in any restaurant anymore, learned that lesson a couple years ago....don't trust the wait staff on this. It is amazing that every restaurant I go to, says they fry their own tortilla chips??? They usually look like they came from a bag to me...lol
