I am new to SMF...

I will be purchasing a new "Brinkmann Trailmaster Limited Charcoal / Wood Grill and Smoker" for $299 next month. Through my research I have found the "Brinkmann" to be the best "offset smoker" for my budget ($300). I am aware of some simple mod's that can be done to control temp. so it appears to be a good choice. Any one have any suggestions on other "offset smokers" for the same price range but better quality???

Any Advise??

Your choice of smoker is well thought-through... you will enjoy a lot of cooking on it.

Be sure to 'cure' it and start your playing with it to learn it's "personality" . Where - in the firebox - does it burn your fuel the best...(front,back , higher than the intake , do you have ash room underneath) ? i.e. - take a day and just burn fuel in it or make a few Fatties .

While you are curing the smoker , I suggest rubbing some oil on the "outside" of the pit. This will help cure the paint and when done each time you cook , rust will not be such a worry if you leave the cooker outside. I keep mine in the garage for some protection , but still rub her down each time she gets hot.

I'm hoping you are a "stick-burner" , IMHO , it's the only way to go. If you have any questions on wood burning , PM me.

Now , I haven't had the opportunity to say "Hello" to the SMF...if you haven't been to our Roll Call please stop by and tell us about yourself. Add you area(location) to your Profile , so we can help you better.

Have fun and ...
