I am new to smoking and recently purchased one of these at my local Home Depot. When you want to smoke something, do you only use the firebox with charcoal and wood chunks, then put the meat on the grill in the big chamber or do you need add charcoal on that side too.

Just coals and wood on the firebox side, nothing but meat in the main smoke chamber.
Be sure to not add too many coals and keep your wood from lying directly on hot coals, that will cause them to burst into flames.
Keep the wood near the coals but not touching until it is smoldering and half burnt, then it is fine to add to your coals.

Add your heat source to the offset firebox when smoking. The nice thing about the Brinkmann is it is a nice functional grill as well. When you want to grill add your coals to the meat chamber and do your grilling in there.

The Brinmann snp can turn out some fine q. If you look under the wood smoker section of the forum there are several links for modifications that can be done to make these some really nice working units.
Good luck and enjoy your snp

Yepper, if you do just what they are telling you. You will have a many a good smoke and grilling too. Now if you would please stop into Roll Call and introduce your self and tell us alittle more about you so we could give you the big welcome we like to give to new members.

I've been looking into a coal basket for this model and I was wondering if anyone has one and if so what are the demnsions? I haven't had much luck finding a place to make one and I'm not handy with metal so I decided to explore on-line. I found a couple made by Horizon but I'm not sure which would be best for my smoker since I'm pretty new to them. I'm not sure roughly how much space would be needed on either side or above th basket or even if that matters as long as you can shut the fire box.

Thanks!

Ed

This is what I use in my Char Griller. http://www.lowes.com/pd_188821-451-4...3895&Ntt=grill basket&Ntk=i_products&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1&cu rrentURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=grill basket

Don't put the handle on. Cut the wires around the handle holder then use four, 3-5 inch bolts in the corners to hold it up on the ledge inside your SFB. It is strong enough for Charcoal & lump. Good luck.

No sir, I do not. I have a "Char Griller" that has been collecting dust since I made a newer purchase of a WSM. My suggestion is based on the fact that the "Char Griller" has the SFB as well, mine being on the right side of the chamber.

Since I can not "See" your Brinkman, I am guessing your SFB is setup the same way, on the left side??

This forum is amazing! Thanks again and I appreciate it!

Is there a search feature on this site that I'm missing? I attempted to look for something like this but there are just so many forums.

When you sign in, right underneath the pictures of the logo is a solid blueish bar. It has SMF - Smoking Meat Forums, Chat, User CP, FAQ, Members List, Calendar, New Posts, Search, Quick Links, Log Out. If you click on search, you will get a generalized search bar with the keyword you are looking for, in each forum here at SMF. If you click on Advanced search, which is at the bottom of the drop down bar after you click on search, you can specify which forum to search, who to search for, what to search for, when to search for....etc. Play with it sometime. Have fun.
