Would there be an import duty on a gift? Or only on a business transaction?I followed the link and requested shipping charges on a 10 pound "sampler" box and got an E-mail beck this afternoon
Cost of box : $24,99
Costof shipping : $49.50
I I have to pay an import duty on it the 19% is calculated on the total (invoice amount + shipping) !!!
Thank you for the link but I think that the overhead is to high.

Pecan is probably not to be found but Norway Maple is native to Europe(hence the name Norway MapleJustpassingthru : Yes we are having rain but we need it, last winter, and most of summer were pretty dry and the water tables are really low ( we have had watering restrictions on since July. Wish it would stop for a couple of days so that I could winterize the pool ! Anyway thankful that it is not raining as mush as it is East of here where they have some flooding on the Mediterranean coast!
Around here they raise corn and wine and corn and wine and ducks and corn and wine. Unfortunately the corn is not for human consumption, its animal feed.
I do not think that Maple or Pecan exist anywhere in Europe but I am not sure. All pecans that we can find are imported from the US and the Maple syrup comes either from the US or Canada.
Clifcarter : About 10 years ago I received a gift send from the U.S. and had to pay a duty on the declared value, do not remember if "shipping" was included but I had to go to Paris to pick it up (a little over a 7 hour drive for me). Even if the rules have changed in the last 10 years - I still find it ridiculous to pay $50 to ship something that costs $25 !
