Been doing the gluten free thing for 10 or 15 years because I have to, not because I want to.

I think a lot of the fun is poked at the whole issue because a ton of people went gluten free when they didn't have any reason to.

Some of us really have issues where gluten causes an autoimmune response that does damage to our system.
This. In a world where everyone has gluten sensitivities, or autism, or needs 'mental health days' the people who are really suffering get lumped in with the attention seekers. My step-daughter came back from a visit from her dads a few years ago with a lactose intolerance daddy diagnosis. This kid lives on goddarn ice cream and cheese, yet she couldn't drink milk cause dad said her tummy hurts because of lactose in milk. No - her tummy hurts because he stuffed her full of fast food and Starbucks for 3-4 weeks.

Aside from the "Mental health days", all the other things are real issues that people who genuinely have Celiac, lactose intolerance, and autism have to live with and, as you say, we get lumped in with all the attention whores who really do not have any of these issues.

100%
My stepson has ASD level 2 and is mostly non-verbal. I see these attention ***** who really just need to back off of the lip filler and broccoli haircuts and Monster drinks on the internet going on and on about 'muh autism means I can be an asswad' and I really wanna just turn the internet off. I mean the whole internet. Forever.

I have an adult stepson with Downs. He is on the high functioning end of the spectrum and can do most things for himself. Does his own laundry, cooks his own meals, etc. No way he could live on his own though

My wife has been highly involved with Special Olympics as long as I have been with her. I see kids with disabilities, real ones, all the time.

These internet wannabes have no idea what these kids and adults with real disabilities have to deal with daily.
