Waiting on the thin blue
I've got two five pound butts to do for a birthday party this is my fourth smoke on butts they've all turned out good thanks to the help from this forum

I've got them on and now we wait I can already taste that pulled pork sandwich I'll have some Q-view as soon as my phone will let me load it up
 
I put my butts on at 9 this morning, it's been 5 hrs they are already at 190* my smoker has been running hot all day as high as 290 will my pork be dry I've spritzed it and now I have it raped in foil
 
Whoa!  290?  Never done a pork butt at that temp but as long as you get it off the smoker at around 200 - 205 IT you should be okay.

Double wrap it once you pull it off the smoker, put it in a cooler, and pack it in towels.  That should keep it hot for 4-5 hours.

What time is the party?
 
Party is at six and shure didn't mean for my smoker to get that hot it was a carry over from the last smoke it took forever to get it up to temp so this time I put to much wood in rookie mistake
 
I've got it under control now smoker is at 239 and the IT is 192 I was just worried about the beginning don't want dry meat

I am a little concerned about the outside of the butts too.  Did you use a brown sugar based rub?  If you did, anything above 250 will burn the sugar and might give the surface a bitter taste.
