best place to run maverick temp probe

on a pit like mine what is every ones recommendation on the best place to run the temp probe cord. i had intention of just running it under the lid but it closes to tight and dang near cuts it. lately ive resorted to taking a small stick and propping it open just enough for the cord. should i drill a hole? or is there a better method?

ether drill a hole or grind a notch in the doorway where the wire will go in the notch and be out of the way of the door...

I drilled a small hole and used a small lamp thimbel with nut on each side. Install a small screw cap when not using.
