Just looked at my suppliers and I can get AA brisket for $6.53 cad which is about $4.75 usd
I would buy at $4.75. $5.99 last time I was at Costco. But I am out of brisket, so Im gonna need to throw down once the snow stops.

tbones went up to 699 a pound. i scored some truly "wagyu looking" ny strips last week for 759 a pound. these were the best strips i ever had i think! so freekin tender n juicy!

If it makes anyone feel better, I hunt deer each year and one time I decided to calculate all the costs for my "hobby" and turned out that my deer meat came out to about $45 a lb LOL!!!

In my defense, I bought a Kawasaki mule that year so it skewed the costs a bit but don't let anyone tell you they save money hunting unless they don't have to pay for the land and they process it themselves :emoji_astonished:

Same with fishing.

Just went through the sales in my area (Myrtle Beach SC), Kroger has whole Brisket on sale this week...$2.99lbs
Checked zip 29572. Looks like that's a digital coupon. I'm going to have to see if it will work up here. Good till 5/26!

thats a great deal on brisket!!!!! id be grinding some steak burgers if i was you. chuck burger here is 549 a pound. the brisket grind would be even better im sure.

For saltwater (at least here) just the opposite. It is infinitely cheaper to go catch than it is to buy especially with stripers, fluke(flounder),scup and even bluefish these days. Same with non market fish like tautog, black seabass. If using a boat that kind of changes things especially right now but lots of people these days are using yaks.

Don't get me wrong there was a time when I was investing heavily in my surf gear especially when it came to plugs but these days I've dumbed my gear down to 4 rods and about 2 dozen core plugs I know catch. And on those rare occasions when I do throw bait it's easy and cheap enough to just go get your own, eels are the exception.

That's exactly what I do. I ended up with 6 Briskets (2 me, 2 my wife, and 2 my daughter). 2 weeks ago I bought a 24lbs Chuck roll for $4.89 lbs from the Chef's Store and split it up got a couple of Chuck eye steaks, a few Denver steaks, a couple chuck roast, and some grinding meat. I can't believe in my retirement years I'm spending time chasing sales.

Ssshhh. What if someone's wife reads this and now you just blew one of their hunting reasons, lol.
For deer IF all I did was use dad's 30-30's or 30-06's and never left our farm property (which rifle I don't) I would get by really cheap because I do process my own and reload my own ammo normally which dad had the major setup and I just buy the specific dies I need. BUT that isn't reality and I like to mess around with different rifles and caliber's so that gets thrown out the window on top of setting up guns for my daughter's. Don't get me started on what I have invested for ice fishing between portable shacks, ice rods and reels nicer rods - custom, lures, flasher (fish/depth finder) and ice auger setups. Granted I have put lots of pounds of perch, crappie, bluegill, etc on the ice in the last 12+ years but probably not enough to offset, then you have to factor fuel with the closest place to fish being 45min away

Over the past couple of months every week at my local market either top or bottom rounds and chucks have been on sale for $4.99/lb so I've been stocking up on tops and bottoms mostly. A few weeks back bone-in strips were on sale for $7.99/b so I stocked up on those, not my favorite steak cut but certainly doable. St.Louis ribs have been going on sale every few weeks for $2.99/lb so I have a few racks in the freezer.

Just noticed the coupon says, "For select markets only", so probably not. But it's still worth a try. Last time, my coupon didn't work, so I asked the clerk to void the sale. He looked at the coupon on my phone, and did an override to give it to me anyway.

Heads up to those of you with a Kroger nearby, the one near me has USDA Choice whole brisket on sale for $2.99/lb. this week...

That is an excellent deal. My Sam's Club has chuck rolls at just over $6/lb. They are listed on a small white board in the meat department and never are in the meat case. The majority are sold to restaurants that grind their own burger.

Was thinking about doing a brisket this weekend. Went to the store and they only had one left. Pretty small sized. I didn't even look at how much it weighed after I saw the price. $109.99 :emoji_astonished: I settled for hot dogs.

I hear ya! I had a similar experience at Costco. The news about beef costs is not encouraging.

Throwing down for brisket at $6+/lb is gonna hurt, especially after the trim. I rarely trim less than 3lb of fat.

As expected, the coupon didn't work in Everett, WA. But again, the clerk took pity on me and did an override.
I got the last one in the store, about 11-1/2 lbs., but not a lot of fat to trim. And $2.99 is certainly better than $6.99. It came out to $34.74, and I had a $6 off meat coupon on top of that.
Sorry the pics are so bright. I was in direct sunlight.
