I live in south louisiana and first hand saw the mass confussion that came in w/ katrina and the crap that came w/ it.
My family came thru both katrina and gustav fine and dandy.
We were prepared and had VERY LITTLE inconvenance.
For both storms we were w/o power for over 14 days.

Not only did we have hot food and clean water we cooked every day for neighbors who weren't prepared and were in danger of loseing everything in their freezers.
for both of those storms we had gasoline powered generator that powered everything but central AC.
Now i have added gen set that runs on natural gas w/ propane option.
Not only did we live ok we cooked 2 meals for the soldiers who were here from tennesee handing out the supplies from fema.
The soldiers had just come back from a tour in iraq and were here in La. for something b4 going home to their familys and when the storm hit their orders were changed and they had to stand in a wal mart parking lot for 3 weeks handing out supplies to some ungreatful folks. When we found out that they were having to eat MREs . The wife and i looked at each other and said OH HELL NO! We and another couple Cooked for 400 folks sat and the same on sun. Fed the Troops ,LEO , Fire and all the truck drivers that were delivering the supplies.
.
I won't get started on the people that were getting these supplies .
lets just say i was embarressed to be from here. and apologised to the troops and asked them to please don't judge all the Louisiana folks by the ones in the line.

We were greatful to be able to provide hot meals to the troops and were able to get some local resturants to provide meals during the week .

If any of y'all ever have to go thru a natural disaster and have the oppertunity to help the ones helping out. PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN!!!!!!!

Pretty much a normal think for us up here in the great north to have ****ty winter storms. Last winter we had a total of alittle over a 100 inches of snow. We damn near broke the record. One of the big differents is with it being normal for lots of snow and such, we have the equipment to move it. But it never hurts to be prepared. I always have gas for the snowblower on hand and extra propane for the grills and heaters.

eman,

Thanks fer thinkin a the folks in uniform. The boy was down south durin the floods in the south (the ones what started here

) The folks down there treated em like dirt, yellin at em, cussin em out cause a what they were givin out fer food, not fixin every little problem there was. The boy was up 3 days straight sandbaggin, livin in a cesspool with water 4 inch's deep round there bunks, no workin bathrooms an handin out most a there meals ta folks that needed food.

It's unfortunate that folks don't remember how much these people gave up ta help them out.

That's one a the reasons we try to be as prepared as we can, so others don't have ta look out fer us, maybe we can help ourselves an our nieghbors.
