Ok I just order my miller mig welder and will be ordering my metals and materials for building my vertical insulated smoker soon. I have done tons of research on these and feel it is the best way for me to go. Do to their fuel consumption. Any ways I have found most of the materials needed but would like to see if you guys know of any places I haven't looked at...What I would need are latches,dampers,handle,1 inch insulation,ect... Maybe even a cool stack damper like ones off of spicewine iron works smokers. The racks will be around 30 or 32 inches wide and about 24 inches deep. Then the outside will follow suit. Any ideas I would like to hear whether it is design ideas or material ideas. I think this might be pretty cool to do. Again thanks for checkin this out.

LOL...oh how I know. This will be the first of many I'm sureThanks it is a great welder. I book marked that link thanks it looks great...I will probably be offering smokers for us people out west for a reasonable price in the near future.

For insulation, check out the Kao Wool. Several vendors on ebay, good prices too. Same stuff they use in kilns. Same stuff BBQ Engineer used and the same stuff I am using in my backwoods clone.

What model Miller did you get? You going gas or flux core?

Thanks I had found that one. but they are goodThat is what I'm looking at I'm more or less price hunting. I didn't think about ebay for that. thanks. This is the miller I have coming http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...c_140_autoset/ I will use gas with flux core. Not sure what gas yet tho. this stuff is pretty thin so I will probably just use a argon 25/75 mix.
on a side note I was thinking of using mineral insulation do to it not retaining moisture at all. I was going to talk to bbq engineer and see if he has noticed any dripping from his do to moisture getting in to the insulation. I'm not sure on the different sizes for this stuff. I have seen 2inch but I haven't had time yet to see if they offer 1inch stuff.

with the results.

Sounds like you have welded a couple of times..lol..thanks it comes tomorrow and am excited. thank youthanks I might use the handles that are the spring type.

Does any one have a big packer brisket that they could measure for me long was..I am trying to decide on my racks for sure. Should order the material by early next week. Thanks a million for who ever has one. I want to be able to put a brisket side ways on my racks. I am thinking 24x25 will be good. With the smoker having 4 racks I will have over 16 sq ft of cooking space...Man when I figured that out what a surprise. that is more then a 60inch lang. and almost equal to a 84incher.
