I've been looking at one of the wireless thermometers that displays the temperature of the smoker cavity and one the meat temperature. The prices widely vary. I'm broke, what am I looking at if I get a cheapo? How bad are they?

Same question for a vacuum sealer.

Might be able to get myself a Christmas gift!

TIA

I have no experience with a wireless meaning no cables from the temp probe to a base unit outside of the smoker.

I've got a ThermoWorks Signals, but unfortunately left it at home. Pricey, but top of the line in wired equipment. They've have a decent sale on a 2 channel Smoke model that I'm considering to replace the signals.

Another respected brand is Thermo Pro I've got a couple of their pen models.

A number of members have Inkbirdbbq Inkbirdbbq I have no experience with them.

On the vac sealer. I have 3 back north. 2 Ziplock models (no longer made) that need some work.
My other is a Cabelas model I really like, but also didn't bring south.
I picked up a Food Saver from Costco. It was on sale for a decent price. So far, I really like it.

Again many members have InkBird

I have a cpl old maverick et732 you can have. It isnt wireless but fits your price, free. No phone app but has a receiving station that can be carried around. Will be in springfield tue.
Finest kind! That's a great offer.
Forgot I had an older Maverick unit with the remote. Loved it, but not sure what happened to it.

I would look at the Nesco deluxe model for a vacuum sealer. Nice sealer & has quite a few functions. It takes up to 12" wide seal bag/rolls.

Thermoworks I think is having their sale now I believe.
How long have you had that sealer? Imo they start good at the gate but seem to fizzle out in about a year with minimal use. Not that model just that style , I would like to have a good sealer under $300 that will last several years like the old food savers.

I have had it a year or close to a year. I've sealed a bunch of stuff with it.

I bought the Nesco deluxe VS-12 model, mainly because of the review from America's Test Kitchen. Plus other reviews I've read.

This place (SMF) is genuinely excellent.

I'm a newbie, so please don't smack me. Is there an area where we can list working gear that is no longer needed (for free)? eBay if I want to sell it, and SMF if I want to give it; that is what I'm thinking.

We have a great option here and are running on introductory pricing still.

FYI on the Mavericks, put them under cover (I used a ziploc bag) when you use them. They are susceptible to water damage. I killed one when a little popup storm hit and bought another. Heavy dewfall killed that one. Good units, just keep them dry.

Okay will do.i have always been able to use them under cover so far. What a damn difference though. My turkey came out perfectly. Should be against the law for the thermometer to be off so bad.
