I am thinking about adding to my smoking equipment. I see a lot of barrel/drum smokers being used on YouTube. Anyone out there have an opinion on these and what is the name brand of a good one. Thanks
Thanks RicardoBuild yourself a UDS you can design it the way you want on your budget. I spent about $200 to build mine and I’m starting another one. My charcoal basket is 12”X12”X12” almost filled with B&B lump mixed with wood chunks, I got a sixteen hour smoke at 250. I shut it down and the next day I went back and still had 1/4 basket of coal left.
I originally wanted a pellet smoker just for the set it and forget it and getting to old to stay up all night and tend the fire. With the UDS I can do that and spend just a few bucks.
Thanks WarrenYup build it yourself. I made mine like the bullet smoker with a charcoal and water pan. Just for your information Weber 22" racks will fit inside 55 gal. barrel.

That sounds real good to me. Gonna give it a shotThe UDS is the way to go, they perform great, and are very inexpensive to build and to heat. You don’t have to spend much time constantly adjusting it, just take a look at it here and there and maybe a minor adjustment at times. A little charcoal goes a long way. And one benefit that I was looking for was that they still smoke great in the winter. They are for the most part air tight, so it’s not tough to maintain temps any time of year. I was able to build mine with mostly scrap from work. The only things I bought for the build were the grating and thermometer. Hope this helps you decide. Good luck.
Sounds good. Post the pics.Build it you won’t regret it. There is so much info out on the web that make it easy. I am working on my second one using a whiskey barrel and will be posting pictures soon after the first test
Good Luck
