My youngest son has really been into cooking lately. Recently at a school event he got to dress up like a chef and now the chef's coat is all he wants to wear.
Today he made some banana bread with a cream cheese frosting all on his own ( with a little supervision from Mom). He was so proud of it, I told him we'd get a picture and I'll share it with the fine folks of SMF. He says someday he wants his own restaurant. The main dish on the menu so far is mac & cheese with a Dr. Pepper to drink lol 🤣

That looks like a fantastic banana bread. I want some! Nicely done. I had a5yo helping me with taters and a tri tip on the Pit Boss tonight. He said he'd like a slice too!

that is so cool. Tell him now he must share , as it is the right thing to do.
Good on your wife and you to help him to enjoy it .

Trust me this will make great memories for him later.

I think my mom was also a little ahead of her time back when we were kids. She showed and helped me cook. ( first thing I made with her watching was Fudge ) what a dangerous thing to teach a little kid, with bubbling hot sugars etc. I have many cook books but wish I had her old White Rose ( I think it was called ) because she had many notes it it just for me.
She also showed both my brother and I how to sew and I hate to admit, also how to knit.

I think I was around your sons age ( between 7 -9 ) as she passed away when I was 11 or so. Really miss those times.

Sorry to go down memory lane.

David

Love that you are getting him into cooking at a young age, my son was into helping me until he hit 14, now not so much.... Betting that he will get back into it as he get older...planted the seed.

Thanks David, we definitely try to teach them as much as we can. That's the only thing you can leave behind that has value.

That's awesome getting your son started early. Chef coat looks like it was meant for him, especially with the bread coming out like that!

It's a dream of mine that my future kids will fall in love with cooking too.
