Hi Guys

Thought I’d post some pics of the build I just completed. I built the smoker out of an old 60 gallon air compressor tank. One thing different about this build that might interest some of you is I automated the smokers temp control with some cheap parts you can buy online. I have the controller mounted inside of the wooden box on the front with a variable computer fan that’s driving the air flow. I was able to use the air outlet port that was on the air tank to plumb the piping into it so it’s all one unit.

Hi, what a nice project that is. I am starting to build my second smoker with much more preparation and design. As I want to use it for my business, I am also looking automated temperature control, I wonder if it works as stable as the temp controllers for kamados?
Do you use a PID controller? Do you have a schema?

Hey

Attached link will get you the wiring schematic i used more or less with that exact controller you posted up. T

Hey

I used the exact controller you posted up. I’ll attach a picture of the wiring schematic I used, but if you Google “wiring a pid controller” you’ll see multiple videos on how to do it. Temp control is fairly decent. When I built what I did it was after I trialed the controller on a crappy 100$ offset smoker. When I trialed it I took an old
Computer from the dump, cut out the cooling fan and just twisted the 12v wires to an old DC adapter plug and hung it by the air inlet port. What I found was the temp controller kept temp close, but since fire box was so small I was having to fill it every couple hours, so I would get a temp swing when I did that. You can see by the setup that it’s totally ghetto, but for 30$ it controlled likely just as well as any controller you find on the market for 300$
