I went to Sam’s today to pick up a brisket for Monday. $6lb is just too much for me to consider paying for a packer brisket. It’s just the two of us this year so an $85 plus piece of meat is just not possible for me to justify. So we are going to be having simple burgers and dogs for Memorial Day. I took out a corned beef point from my freezer to cook on my smoker tomorrow. I’ll be doing some vortex chicken to go along with it as well. I hope you all have a safe and wonderful weekend.

True! I went to Sam's this week and it was $6 lb also. Just last month it was $2.89. All of the stores here in Ga. are over $6 lb. Very bad. You too have a great holiday and stay safe.

They had about ten briskets in the case. I’m sorry but you can’t justify raising the price on meat you already have in stock because you are saying you can’t replace it with new stock. Raise the price on your future stock not the ones you paid less for as an organization. That’s why nobody was buying it. Plenty of lookers until they saw the price like I did. It was pretty much move along after that. I knew the gouging would happen I just didn’t realize it be so drastic and so soon.

I bought 3 over the last month to use for ground beef . Paid 3.49 a pound . Last I looked price was 5 bucks a pound . Ground one and froze the other 2 .

Man, some folks are looking at prices that have doubled, almost tripled in some places, and that's if... If... there is even the cut of meat they want to buy.
Ground beef is now $7. $8. $9. even $11. per lb. in some places.
It's crazy, you're paying for the grinding labor.
Which is why I wait to buy untrimmed tri tips when they go on sale for less than $3.00 P.P. then I grind my own burger, there is plenty of fat on the untrimmed T.T. to make an 80/20 grind. T.T. burger is amazing, way better than brisket burger in my opinion.

I was going to buy a 20lb bag of clod yesterday for French dips and it was $4.00 P.P. more than it normally is.
Nope, didn't buy it instead I bought 2 huge T.T. to slice thin for French dips and a turkey breast for open face Thanksgiving sandwiches. I bought a 10'' Lem slicer that I have to try out this weekend so sandwiches it is.

3 weeks ago I paid 2.69 for packer , past Friday price is 6.49 at the sams . Bjs have flat piece for 4.69
I hope prices will comeback down soon , crazy world we leave

Yup $7 a pound for 80/20 here and nary a brisket to be found. My wife was filling out the grocery order yesterday and eggs had gone from $0.70 to $2.82. But fresh meat in general has been hard to come by around here. It’s pretty crazy. I read an article in TX monthly about the supply chain and it’s pretty nuts. The demand for ground beef for fast food joints has gone way up so they’re grinding up what briskets they have to meat the demand. My daughter works at sonic and they’ve stopped doing double patties at her store just to keep from running out.

Yikes! I wonder what the places that sell half/whole hogs and cows will be charging? Might have to go that route if the stores are gonna keep cranking prices up.

I guess I better put a chain & lock on my basement Freezer??
I got 5 Choice Prime Ribs at about 5 pounds each & a Dozen Ribeyes in there!
Bought most of them during the last Christmas week.----Must be worth a fortune now.

Prices are up for sure. I got he last one on sale at kroger a couple days ago - full price was stickered at $89, go tit for $50, it was quite fatty but the desire for a brisket was high...wife loves them...I do to.

I love veggies, too, but my freezer, while fairly stocked, is fairly small.

I always tell people (I do a lot of dietary counseling professionally) that I know it is more expensive to shop in the fresh fruits & veggies section, but we need to start looking that way. All the carbs as the major basis of our diet isn't good for our waistlines. Now, though... meat is going through the roof.

That’s the ticket right now especially hogs. If you have a local processor you bypass the packing plant closures that are driving the prices. I just bought a 300 lbs hog for $150 as $0.50 per lbs is the going live weight right now. For $100 they kill, butcher , pack and if desired make the sausage, as well as cure and smoke the ham and bacon. Once I see how much room is left in my freezer I may buy a 2nd one.

From what I hear around here, the local butchers are booked out until fall. Literally NO room for new orders.
