I am in the process of making a log splitter.

I have an 11 hp side shaft engine and my hydraulic pump.

The shaft on the engine is roughly 1 inch and the shaft on the pump is about a half inch.

I would like to do a direct drive system with an end shaft coupler.

Hopefully someone may be able to help me out.

Trying to do as economically as possible.

I would do something like the highlighted items in the pic. If you don't have a Grainger account let me know and we can work something out as I get a pretty decent discount off of catalog price.
 
i agree with Rio... lovejoy couplers are what you want to use, they work great and make a very serviicable assembly.
 
Yup go with a Love Joy and a rubber spider, helps a lot on alignment, but you will still have to align them pretty close.
