I've had my ET73 for almost two years and it has worked well until the last two months or so. It started when my meat probe would read 300+ inside my house at room temp when my grate probe read room temp. So I ordered a new meat probe. That one worked for only about a few weeks. Got a replacement for that one and it currently works well. NOW my damn grate probe reads HHH. What the hell does that mean.

Has anyone had this problem with either the ET 73 or ET 732? I want to order a new thermometer and am thinking about the ET 732 especially since the ol' lady is giving me the go-ahead.

Any help is good help here. Thanks

It should be in your manual.

Helpful Hints

If the receiver and/or the transmitter display LLL or HHH instead of the probe temperature, wait for probe

to reach room temperature. If LLL or HHH is still displayed it is likely the internal probe wire has shorted out

either through moisture or heat damage.

I would buy a new et732

AHHHH. Didn't see it. Thank you very much. I went ahead and purchased the black ET 732 anyway. I've been wanting to upgrade and just needed an excuse.

I think the problem with the 73 and 273 probes is in the way they are made.  They are fixable.  The problem is that the thermometer and the wires are crimped with two brass or copper crimps.  I think when the Temp of the crimp changes and the crimp expands or contracts the resistance of the crimp changes and the maverick sees that as a change in temperature so you see 300* at room temp. The one I had go bad made it fine to 165* then went HHH.   When I took it apart the problem was the crimp failed and the wire came out.  I believe HHH means open.

My fix.   http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/133733/whats-inside-the-mavrick-732-probes-easy-to-fix

That was an extremely helpful link. Thank you Stan. Good thing I kept those bad probes. I'll get around to fixing them. Looks like imma have two goog thermometers now when my 732 gets in.
