We haven't seen
anything yet. Politics matters, sure, policy matters; but both sides of the aisle have participated in profligate spending. The dollar is on it's way out. When it finally collapses, it will make today seem like paradise. The Weimar Republic was an excellent example of what can happen, very fast. People insisted on paying for a cup of coffee the minute they ordered it because by the time they were done the price may have gone up.
People are clueless and cant help being caught up in their own situation, but there is a much bigger hammer to fall. The next 5 months alone will be insane and it already is now. But what happens at the beginning of November, matters. The politics matters, but one thing that transcends politics is the money, power and control. DC is and has been making themselves rich on what used to be our money...now it's our credit, and that is rapidly running out.
Yup . I got hammered back in March . I also got hammered back in 2009 . Got a check back in 2009 , that didn't cover the repair . Never had it fixed , because I was dealing with other stuff .
They called me back then and told me I had to cash the check , so I did . Roof isn't leaking but it's in bad shape . I still have the 2009 money , just need to call and see what they will do .
The State Farm agents won't even talk with you anymore . I pressed mine on that and he told me it's because the company thinks they are " Friends " with the clients .
I'm 63 and been paying them since I was 16 . Might mean something ? Not anymore .
Be sure to understand the estimate and claim payment. We knew we needed our roof shingles replaced. Had contractors come and price. First one had an app that showed all the storms in recent (digital) years and told me we had been hit by 1-1/4" hail a year ago. Went up on the roof and took pictures, sure enough...evidence.
He highly recommended I file a claim. I said, on a 30 year out of warranty roof? He said, They insure your house as it is to repair it back to where is was". Inspector came out, got a claim estimate very quickly and they were covering it...but depreciated more than half of it and my deductible is $1,850.00 so I was getting a 2K+ check. We said, "well, better than nothing".
The adjuster (I didn't know thats who he was at first) was hammering three different phones including my wife's calling us. Pissed me off, 8:30 on a Friday night, 9:30 on a Sunday morning. I was like "what the hell do they want? They've settled this and a check is in the mail."
Monday, I was out in an area with no cell service. When I got back in to a covered area I got a voicemail. It was
this guy. To make the harassment stop, I returned his call and actually reached him. Turned out to be a great guy, country accent and wanted to be sure I understood "recoverable depreciation". They are buying us a new roof, minus deductible and things that arent covered, like chimney flashing, any rotted substrate boards, etc.
What you need to know is you have to have the roof replaced and your contractor sends proof it was done, then the insurance sends the check for the rest. You have to do the repairs within 2 years. The adjuster was hounding me to explain this to me. He said he's had customers who thought that small check was it, and they had no idea they could get most of the rest paid for as well.
So, I'm with State Farm (since forever) and have had nothing but top notch service from them every time we have had damage. This isn't the first claim. The only problem I've ever had is an adjuster on my dad's insurance (I was handling while they were out of the area) took issue with us replacing a refrigerator that had rotten meat in it from power out and we were out of town. The phone agent told us to go ahead and get a new one, a refrigerator is considered an emergency need. The adjuster grumbled that the compressor could have been replaced. I told him there was no getting the "funk" out of that fridge. He begrudgingly covered it.
We are in Virginia. I have seen our escrow go up a bit, but nothing outrageous yet. I will be keeping an eye on it though after reading this thread.
