Still in the process of building my UDS and I have an opportunity to pick up a used Weber 22 1/2" diameter Kettle Grill for next to nothing. My question is can I use the dome lid from the Weber as the lid to my drum or do alterations have to be made? My drum did not come with a removable lid so I had to cut the top out. The diameter of the drum is roughly 23".

Thanks, John

Actually, the inside diameter of the Weber kettle lid is about 22-3/4" which usually puts it on the lip of most UDS's. Get the whole kettle and do what BBQ Bubba did. Cut the top 2" of the bottom of the Weber and mount it inside the drum. Then the lid will fit perfectly.

Hope Bubba doesn't mind that I used his picture.

my weber lid fit my UDS perfectly with no mods. I cut inside the "lip" to get the top off.

Am I to understand that you did not cut the barrel top off to the inside of the rim but left a "lip" around the inside circumference so that the Weber lid would sit on it?

John

no, sorry for the misunderstanding, it was cut along the rim. The lid sits perfectly on the rim.

My Weber lid sit very loosely on my UDS. They appear to be the same diameter. I will have to do the "Bubba" mod if I want to use the Weber lid.
I am looking forward to that mod. Then I'll do a turkey on it.

somehow I feel like I just completely wasted my time responding to this thread.

I didn't know by your response if you were guessing or you actually knew.

Obviously you have a UDS with a Weber lid and your lid looks like it actually fits on the rim of your drum as does phreak's . Mine does not. I guess some fit and some do not depending on what size drum you have..........I apologize if I offended you.

Take care, John

No problem. If I'm blowing smoke out of my ***, I'll let you know ahead of time

That is true and it also depends on if the drum has the rolled lip of the open top or if it was a closed top with the inside cut out.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. Not all drums are created equal.
