Hi there from the West Coast of Canada!

I'm brand new to this forum.. and also fairly new to smoking...

I've had a SV now for about a year and really like it.

However I've had an issue achieving lower temps.. I saw on here using AMPS helps this.

The questions I have is.. what type of AMPS is best for the SV?

Also how is it utilized? a picture of somebody's set up would be great, I'm mostly just wondering where to place it? On the cast steel tray? Higher? Right on the burner?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That unit is Propane, right ?? You need a needle valve to reduce the propane flow... Then you need to reduce the number of "flame ports" in the burner so you won't get a flame out.... Now that the BTU's have been reduced, try the AMNTS tube smoke generator... they work best in a propane unit....

One member clipped off nails and dropped them in half of the flame ports ..
Doing that allows for a small flame with 1/2 the propane flow...
Basically ~1/2 the BTU output... that's what the needle valve is for...

Hey Dave!

Thanks for that great info!

Yes it is a propane unit..but my burner doesn't look anything like that..not sure that nails would work..

A needle valve kit is definitely something that I need to look into though..

With the tube smoke generator is there a preferred spot in the smoker you place it?

Again thanks for the great information buddy!

Above the flame... Flame consumes smoke....
You will have to figure out a way to plug 1/2 the holes in the burner... Got a picture of the burner...

Not on hand.. I'll look into how to plug to holes once I get a needle valve kit..

Anyone on here know what kit might work best for the SV?

One guy I saw got the Bayou but he didn't report back how it worked for him..

Thanks again Dave

Ya that was the one I was referring to..Just didn't hear how it worked for him..

Does that simply replace the regulator/feed line on the smoke vault?

Do you know anyone if that screws right on to the burner?

Attach it to your propane hose... You may need an adapter... pipe thread to hose barb... then clamp it...

Will someone take a picture of how you installed the needle valve and put it up here or link to a thread...
