OK....  I have been a proponent of drying pellets to get them to burn properly.....

Test #1 shows that's not necessary with a mod to the AMNPS.....

I was talking with Mr. T and he showed me his mod to the AMNPS...   no longer does he need to dry his pellets.....

I thought about his mod and surmised the X brace, on the bottom of the AMNPS "could have been blocking air flow under the unit when sitting in the MB mod...  Not so when sitting on the wires in the bottom of the MES....    SOOOOOOOOO, I modified my AMNPS like he did his....

I put in 2 ...  1/2 rows of pellets out of the box without drying...  the pellets rounded the corner and down the center row....   seems like they will not burn around the corner "at times"...

Burning very good....  I did the absolute minimum when lighting the pellets....    30 seconds with the torch.... a few puffs to get a flame going....  less than 2 minutes of flame and blew it out...     into the MB mod. it went...

2 hours later is what you see......

..
.. ..

I'll be back with the final report.....

4 hours of smoke.....    AMAZING.....  Tom, great find.....  no more drying pellets....

Well, I'm sure going to give that a try Dave.  I've only done 2 smokes since my mailbox mod and both times I nuked the pellets and then made sure they were burning well.  The result was fantastic.  Now if, with this mod to the AMNPS itself, I don't have to take the extra measures, it will be even better.

Morning Gary.....   Sure hope it works for you too...  Such an easy fix to a nagging problem...   hopefully....

Yes,

Elevating the AMNPS in the mailbox does wonders.  Binder clips, lag bolts, what ever you can find out in your shop.

I agree with cmayna, it was discovered four years ago that the tray type smoke generator would burn much better when setting on top of a small colander. Decided to go to bolts in the corners for a more permanent unit eliminating having to go through a fuel drying process prior to use. You should have no problem using it in near 100% humidity if it is given a good start and ample draft.

Hmmmmm.....  We buy those large binder clips by the ton at work and there is a bin of ones that are old and to be tossed periodically.  Might have to borrow a few of those slated for the trash bin and re-purpose them on the pellet tray.

Thanks for sharing the idea.

Great Ideas,,, I am going to have to give this a try in my MB mod tonight!!!

A full smoker is a happy smoker

Supposedly got my AMNPS today. Going to raise it with whatever I have available.

Question though, do you still need to over fill/pack at the corners to make it around them?

Thanks
Eric

I just keep my corners the same as the rest-----About 1/4" down from the top all the way around.
